Luminor joins the initiative

The bank Luminor, which operates across the Baltic States, has joined the initative Employers Against Domestic Abuse. The bank employs around 2,500 people and has its headquarters in Tallinn. Awareness of domestic abuse will be raised in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
“Domestic abuse affects us all – either directly or indirectly. According to statistics, more than a third of people in Estonia have encountered it, which means that every third colleague or acquaintance may need support. At Luminor, we see violence prevention not only as a social issue but also as one of financial wellbeing, as financial pressures can make it especially difficult for victims of domestic abuse to seek help or to leave an abusive relationship. That’s why it’s important that we know how to notice, understand, and support,” said Tanel Rebane, Member of the Management Board at Luminor.
He emphasised that the bank is pleased to join an initiative that grew out of the NULA social innovation incubator – a programme which Luminor has supported for years as a partner, helping impactful ideas to grow and develop. “Although the initiative initially focuses on Estonia, as a pan-Baltic bank we are also sharing awareness and practical tools with our Latvian and Lithuanian colleagues to help create a more caring and safer society across the region,” he added.

According to **Triin Adamson, head of the initiative, the financial sector has a particularly important role to play in prevention. “Economic dependence is one of the main reasons why victims of abuse cannot or do not dare to leave violent relationships. When employers – especially banks and financial institutions – help their employees and clients recognise the signs of economic abuse and support the strengthening of financial resilience, it has a direct impact on people’s sense of security and freedom of choice. We are very pleased that several Estonian banks, including Luminor, recognise their responsibility and opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of both their employees and society as a whole,” said Adamson.
All employers, regardless of industry or organisation size, are welcome to join the initiative. We invite businesses, non-profit organisations, foundations, and other legal entities that share our values and vision, as well as citizens who are interested in the cause.
